Introduction

Welcome to the website of the Handa family who originally hailed from Punjab and finally settled down in west Bengal at Ukhra for more than twelve generations. The family history section illustrates in details the background with a family tree.

The main objective is to bring together all the family members scattered across the globe in this common platform. This would enable family members to be in sync with the current events & happenings and also share the glimpses of the rich culture & heritage to the outside world.

About Ukhra

Situated approximately 200 Kms from Kolkata, Ukhra , formerly Shergarh is a small town under Andal police station in the Durgapur – Asansol industrial belt. It is in the heart of the Ranigunj coal mining zone and serves as the main business market after Asansol, Durgapur & Ranigunj. It is well connected by rail and road. Ukhra has it's own railway station on the Andal-Sainthia route which is around 12 Kms from Andal Junction. Being just 7 kms from the Grand Trunk Road (NH2) the road transport facility is ever increasing day by day. It is also conveniently located with reasonable proximity to quite a few tourist spots like the Durgapur & Maithan Dams, Kalyaneshwari Temple, Topchachi, Deul, Bankura, Bishnupur, Mukutmanipur, Bakreshwar, Shantiniketan etc.

Ukhra is well known for it's unique Rathayatra, Jhulan, Durgapuja, Kalipuja & Gosto festivals. The traditional and famous Jilabi of Habu's shop since many decades is another major attraction for people in and around Ukhra.
